Win two tickets to The Isle Of Wight Festival!

UK party people, listen up: I’ve managed to get my hands on a pair of tickets to this year’s legendary Isle of Wight Festival, giving one lucky winner (and a friend) the opportunity to attend one of the hottest festivals of the summer - for free. The list of performing artists reads like a who’s who of the international music scene, including world class acts by the likes of ex-Beatle Paul McCartney, Jay-Z, The Strokes, Florence + The Machine, Blondie and Pink. The colossal line-up is completed by lots of big names such as Little Boots, Biffy Clyro, Marina and the Diamonds, La Roux, Orbital, James, Calvin Harris, Editors, Vampire Weekend and many more.

Now in the ninth year since its reincarnation, The Isle of Wight Festival is steeped in musical heritage and magical memories. The Festival is renowned for bringing in the biggest names as well as showcasing new and upcoming talent and this year will be no exception.

Here’s how you can enter the competition: To avoid legal complications, I need to know that you’d be able to brave the dangers of three days of festival madness in case you’ll be the lucky chosen one, so you have to take a picture of yourself and your festival survival kit and email it to me at discodemons@gmail.com – best (or funniest) equipped person wins! Please put FESTIVAL in the subject line to help me sorting my emails. Oh, and no multiple entries (I promise, I will find out and make it rain on your tent). Good luck!

The Rogue Element

A famous man whose name slipped my mind once said: “Music starts where language ends”. Or something like that. To be honest, I have no idea if he was famous or not, as I’m only using this quote I just made up as a cheap peg on which to hang on this post about a piece of music that is way too complex to just declare it as “amazing” in order to make you download it.

What starts with an innocuous vocal intro that might remind not only you of some older Air tracks is actually a chameleonic (kudos to the copywriter of the press release) masterpiece of catchy melodies and broken beats, ultimately shredding genre boundaries by adding a touch of  bleepy 8-Bit ambience.

The Penelopes

It’s about time to introduce to you a band that has been lonesomely loitering on my hard drive for too long now: I initially discovered The Penelopes thanks to Vitalic’s truly amazing This Is The Sound Of Citizen Mix that made me fall in love with their song Demian immediately (proving once again that I love everything somehow related to Vitalic). Apart from a few plays on iTunes’ shuffle mode, I somehow managed to completely forget about them until they released their second album Priceless Concrete Echoes on Citizen Records back in spring 2009 – an innovative, fresh piece of art showcasing the perfect fusion of electronic dance music and indie pop rock. Here’s a streaming only preview of Demian, just to get an idea what made me fall in love with the band in the first place:

The Penelopes – Demian (feat. Dierde)

Today marks the release of their latest EP, Licked By Love, collaborating with French artist Morpheus. The release features remixes by the likes of Linda Lamb and David Caretta, taken the song to an even higher level of awesomeness. Citizen Records seem to be feeling generous today, so here’s the Blister Boyz remix of Licked By Love in it’s full 320kbps glory:

Daze

Dramatic soundscapes built by epic portamento synth strings, complex lead synths highly charged with distortion, an undeniable touch of 8-Bit arcade video game madness – what might sound like a press quote about a new Kavinsky or Danger release is actually a warning to these two luminaries: French (what else?) producer Daze is certainly a certainly an artist to keep an eye on.

Jamaica

Better late than never not only applies to handing in university papers but also to blogging music, so I recommend wiping off the following piece of music with a wet paper towel, then it’ll be good – it’s just a few days old. Performed by Jamaica (formerly known as Poney Poney), produced by Xavier de Rosnay (Justice) and finally remixed by Breakbot, this overdose of triple French awesomeness has SUNSHINE written all over it.

Dancen Dancen!

Let me introduce to you a new rising star in the endless skies of the blogosphere: Having played all over Europe and Mexico, Austrian allround artist and bon-vivant DJ Len decided to start sharing his endless passion in music with whoever is capable of using a computer. dancendancen.com is an innovative, fresh music blog focusing in all shapes of electronic dance music, ranging from dirty electro-house to crystal clear minimal techno. Impudently using the connections he has gathered in years of DJing and backstage-networking, he recently secured an exclusive preview on Eriq Johnson‘s latest release titled Guy Who Is A Girl. I took this as an opportunity to unveil his blog to you all, so here’s a streaming preview of a massive rework by Avo – to actually download the track (and see what Len has to say about it), head over to dancendancen.com or become a fan on Facebook.

Not Going Home

I haven’t yet made up my mind whether the music video is too trashy or not (especially the intro is terribly cheesy, but it gets quite artistic towards the end), but I sure like the new Faithless release with my eyes closed: Not Going Home is an intoxicated night owl’s lucid dream about the kind of extraordinary girls that seem to surface in every club at 5am, keeping you from going home, sweeping away in floods of alcohol. “Its not over. Im not going home til I can take you with me.”

Intergalactic Threnody

Let me introduce to you… no, not a brand new dance (thank you for a stupid earworm, Chemical Brothers), but a multi-talent you shouldnt’t let slip under your radar  - all eyes on Mike Stone. Not only did he spend endless hours working on .css stylesheets to turn an ugly duckling into the new Disco Demons site, Mike is also a more than capable DJ and producer. While changing tiniest details back and forth until I finally liked it, he once mentioned a bootleg remix of a Jaguar Love track he was working on – a few minutes later, there was this huge, nasty bass monster rattling on its chains in my mailbox. In the meantime, it was officially released on Rot10 Records, so I’ll just post up a preview to stream the track – head over to Juno Download to buy the full release, if you like it (if you don’t: go home). However, as we all love free music downloads, here’s a little something something for you all to bang your heads to: SebastiAn’s Threnody versus The Beastie Boys’ Intergalactic.
