Hangover Sessions #05

Festival season started and summer clubs opened their doors, this year’s big summer tune is already out there, you just have to find it.
Hangover Sessions #05 is a sunny mix for dark hours and brings you 60 minutes of the latest club tracks out of Aka Tell´s DJ sets.

The recordcases are packed, the CD wallets are filled and even the harddrives of the DJ´s notebooks are loaded to the bursting point and won´t be reequipped that much during this summer´s season. When internationally travelling DJ´s start their summer season they already know what they will play this summer and only reconsider for really essential tunes.
Hard to imagine? Well, with a tight schedule of gigs nearly every day and long travel distances it is not surprising that there is little time to search for new music during this time of the year. And as everybody of us knows some superstar-DJs that play mainly 2 year old tracks anyway, this does not mean much of a change.
It is also a fact, that there are less new releases during the summer months. Years ago recordstores were closed as people went on holidays and so it was hard to bring a new release to good sales. Nowadays I would think that it is hard to reach DJ´s for promoting your music during this time is the main reason, as people obviously do listen to and buy music during the summer.
So in late spring a huge amount of new music is released and every label out there promises you to bring the next big summer tune to you. What I can say for sure is, that this year’s big tunes are already out there, what I can not tell you is, which ones will really last. But as every month I made a selection of the tracks I spinned for the last weeks and I will keep for some time longer.

Once more I included a Mord Fustang track (this time a remix). This guy from Estonia is this springs rising star in electro house. His production style is very detailed and has some unique aspects. Two years ago everybody was playing Wolfgang Gartner, last year it was Dirtyloud – I would say this year is Mord Fustang´s.
When it comes to heavier electro beats my friends from Beef Theatre were an authority for great remixes during the last year. Now they release their debut EP on Mähtrasher Records (out June 13th) and these great tracks are already on heavy rotation in my sets. Although they engaged some well known names for their remixes i stick with the original tracks, pure fatness.
With the first warm sunrays this year I felt the urgent need to play some more electro beats with rhythmic influences. Seems like I am not the only one, as Kuduro, Moombahton & Global Bass have huge fan communities even here in the center of Europe. You can find only slight influences in my sets, but at the moment I really do not mind to spend my time facing a big soundsystem playing those heavy bangers.

One more thing: As I got so much great feedback for my monthly articles on one side, and I am regularly consulted for technical questions concerning DJing on the other side I started to blog about the more technical aspects of DJing at akatell.tumblr.com – take a look if you are interested.

Aka Tell´s Hangover Sessions is a series of monthly dj mixes. For one hour Aka spins the tracks that he loved most, that influenced him or about that he really had to say some words during the last few weeks. Every mix is accompanied by an article on discodemons.net in which he is disclosing thoughts, stories and anecdotes about that mix, the last month and DJing in general.
Aka Tell is a member of the electro house act A.G.Trio. Together with Andy Korg he heads the austrian electro house label Etage Noir Special. He has been active as a DJ for more than 10 years. Aka Tell lives in Vienna, Austria.
