Recently a befriended blogger said to me “if I hear another bad acid bassline, I´m going to kill somebody”. Sounds like the 90ies, but happened in 2012. If you get to listen do dozens of new tracks on a daily basis, new trends become boring pretty fast. Especially if you get sent copies and rip-offs of every new aspect (even if it´s a retro aspect like acid basslines) in dance music just days after their first appearance. Development became pretty fast these days, and the fact, that every new sound is too old and overused just a few days/weeks/months after someone (re-)invented it, just because it gets copied the second it gets released, is a pain in the ass, as there is no room for in-depth development. Bring up a new idea, two days later a blog will feature a harder version of it, one week later every blog on hypemachine will praise the hardcore version of it and two weeks later people will ask you after your dj-gig why you played the lame version of the newest ultra-hardcore-trend in your set.
Don´t get me wrong: This is no “everything was better back then” comment. This is just an appeal to be more original. There is a lot of great and innovative music released every day, but sometimes it gets lost in the huge amount of bad music that just tries to copy the latest trend.

Nevertheless, there has been a lot of great music coming my way during the last month. And with a release and a remix by ourselves (“Countably Infinite” and “Brazza”) we hope to have contributed our part. Enjoy.

Aka Tell´s Hangover Sessions is a series of monthly dj mixes. For one hour Aka spins the tracks that he loved most, that influenced him or about that he really had to say some words during the last few weeks. Every mix is accompanied by an article on discodemons.net in which he is disclosing thoughts, stories and anecdotes about that mix, the last month and DJing in general.
Aka Tell is a member of the electro house act A.G.Trio. Together with Andy Korg he heads the austrian electro house label Etage Noir Special. He has been active as a DJ for more than 10 years. Aka Tell lives in Vienna, Austria.
