Hangover Sessions #16

Is this the sound of the summer? Let´s say it´s the sound of the month! Here is the new episode of Aka Tell´s “Hangover Sessions”.

I am writing this text on a train on the way to the video premiere of the new A.G.Trio video. Today I met people from different distributors and a promotion agency to talk about the upcoming album, I arranged DJ promotion for an upcoming EP on our label and radio promotion for another one. And later today I will talk (business) to dozens of people and let it look like pure pleasure – what is not hard for me, I actually like it. What I want to say is: making music is not only about music, but most of the time it´s business. Even if you are only a beginner you will find out pretty soon, that a lot of your available time is not actually making music but promoting it and connecting with people. The alternative would be to make the music for yourself and hoping that maybe some label will discover you by chance. This hardly will happen. If you experienced some success it is an option to outsource, but eveything has a price. I guess the best thing is to accept that this is part of the game and see the silver lining: there are a lot of things you can decide for yourself and the music you finally make is for sure the music you want to make.
My friend Parov Stelar recently said in an interview that one of the hardest things for him was to accept that he is not only a musician but also the head of a company. And if you consider his success that´s not the worst option.
Business will always be part of the music game, but at least you can decide how you play it.

When I looked over my the tracklist of this mix I had to smile: I opened my very first “Hangover Sessions” mix with an Alex Metric track and so I do with this one. Nearly one and a half year have passed since and a lot has changed. And it actually took some time until a track by Alex made it to my track collection again. This one is even a free release.
The rest of the mix is, as usual, a journey through the latest additions to my collection. Some weird stuff, some club bangers and a lot of stuff somewhere between this poles, enjoy!

Aka Tell´s Hangover Sessions is a series of monthly dj mixes. For one hour Aka spins the tracks that he loved most, that influenced him or about that he really had to say some words during the last few weeks. Every mix is accompanied by an article on discodemons.net in which he is disclosing thoughts, stories and anecdotes about that mix, the last month and DJing in general.
Aka Tell is a member of the electro house act A.G.Trio. Together with Andy Korg he heads the austrian electro house label Etage Noir Special. He has been active as a DJ for more than 10 years. Aka Tell lives in Vienna, Austria.
