Hangover Sessions #17

The first track of a dj-set is quite important, it not only is a statement and indicates the start of a new dj-set, but also gives direction to the whole set. The start of your set is also a good time to grab some attention and make people aware that something has changed. It is possiblity to do some technical tricks and effects at the start of your set. But this is a risky thing if your just entered the stage and did not have time to check out all the equipment and especially the sound. I used to make some beatjuggle or effect routines at the start of my set, but more than once I realized that it is a hard thing to do, when the monitor does not work or the DJ before you disconnected the turntable. So I always have a plan B if I do not have enough time to prepare everything.

This months mix starts with the remix of one of the best intro-tracks of all times, “Preacher Man” by Green Velvet. This is one of the very first club tracks I remember from going out, and the rework brings the track on today´s club sound level really well – though the original is an unreachable classic. I used the occasion of this intro track to start the whole mix a bit more laid back as I did recently. Don´t worry, there are some heavy stompers later in the mix, and though the “Hangover Sessions” are not so much about hard electro any more (please accept a Stereoheroes track as my apology) there is still enough loud and heavy club music here.

Aka Tell´s Hangover Sessions is a series of monthly dj mixes. For one hour Aka spins the tracks that he loved most, that influenced him or about that he really had to say some words during the last few weeks. Every mix is accompanied by an article on discodemons.net in which he is disclosing thoughts, stories and anecdotes about that mix, the last month and DJing in general.
Aka Tell is a member of the electro house act A.G.Trio. Together with Andy Korg he heads the austrian electro house label Etage Noir Special. He has been active as a DJ for more than 10 years. Aka Tell lives in Vienna, Austria.
