In between hopping from one festival to the next one might not believe how fast time passes. But yes, it´s already time for another episode of Aka Tell´s Hangover Sessions!

I am not sure if I am more sensitive about technical problems in DJ-sets and live-acts since my own troubles earlier this year (compare my text from February/Hangover Sessions #13) or if it was just bad luck, that I have been seeing them with other acts a lot since. For example I saw Fatboy Slim´s computer failing at this year´s Sonar, I saw Flying Lotus experience some heavy troubles on stage (which did not seem to be his fault) and I also saw Crookers having problems with a CDJ-2000 at Beatpatrol festival recently (it was the SD-card, they twittered later). And Jakob told me that even at Tomorrowland festival they had problems with the sound system during David Guettas set.
What I wanted to say, in addition to my thoughts in February, is, that there will always be problems with technical equipment in this business, as it is a live business (even as some people are extending the term “live” to it´s limits right now).
And if your are asking yourself what my conclusion to all my thoughts back then was: I am using CDJ´s now, just because they feel good. And if one fucks up I always have a spare one
This months track selection features some pretty nice tunes, although the amount of new releases is, as usual, not so high in the summer months, as it is during the rest of the year. With Torro Torro´s remix of “My World” a track was finally released, that I was waiting for for more than 1,5 years – actually I wanted to have it for my very first Hangover Sessions mix back in January 2011, but it was not available then, there was only a snippet on soundcloud. And though it is not in a style, I have been dropping recently, I definitely had to include it and I think I found some matching tracks to make a fine mix around it.
I do not like the discussion about what is Techno and what is only some kind of Electro, that came up in the last year after this strange “Future Techno” hype and everything. Besides I always thought that the name “Future Techno” was pretty lame and silly I also never understood why it is necessary to separate this style so strictly. I always combined Electro and Techno in my sets and there always have been tracks that were more into one ore more into the other direction. And to be honest, most classic Techno DJs nowadays are playing some kind of lame Tech-House. But I am pretty sure that the Len Fake Edit, I included in this mix, is “real” Techno, and also the Dave Clarke & Mr. Jones Remix of Boys Noize & Erol Alkan´s “Brain Storm” should satisfy every purist. And yes, J. Tijn did another great technoish Remix I had to include into my mix, and if it is not Techno enough for you, just call it as you want!
Aka Tell´s Hangover Sessions is a monthly DJ-podcast. For one hour Aka spins the tracks that he loved most, that influenced him or about that he really had to say some words during the last few weeks. Every episode is accompanied by an article on discodemons.net in which he is disclosing thoughts, stories and anecdotes about that mix, the last month and DJing in general.
Aka Tell is a member of the electro house act A.G.Trio. Together with Andy Korg he heads the austrian electro house label Etage Noir Special. He has been active as a DJ for more than 10 years. Aka Tell lives in Vienna, Austria.
