Hangover Sessions #22

Every month Aka Tell´s “Hangover Sessions” brings you a 1 hour dj-mix of the latest club-tunes in Aka´s collection. This time featuring John Roman, Bart B More, NT89, Harvard Bass, Henzel & Disco Nova, Digitalism and many more.

John Roman continues his “REVISIONS” series with part 6 and it´s about time to feature this excellent – free download – work here. “REVISIONS” is planned as a 10 part EP series, and every track is composed almost exclusively from sampling a Rap/R&B album from the last 15 years. The track featured in my mix is “The Blast”, made from samples of the Beastie Boys “To the 5 Boroughs”. All tracks from the series can be downloaded for free on the “REVISIONS by John Roman” Soundcloud page.

Another free download in this months mix is “The Pictures” by Digitalism. It has been around the web as “unreleased” track for quite some time and was part of Digitalism´s “DJ Kicks” mix – now they put it on their Soundcloud as a free download.
A track, that was on my wishlist for some time now, is Bart B More´s “The Box”. It should work well on the dancefloor and is a great peaktime tool.

Proxy returns with a new release on Turbo. The original version is nothing for me, but the John Roman remix definitely is, as it is exactly the kind of percussive Techno-ish sound I prefer right now.

SCNTST´s new EP on Boys Noize records is again a playful adventurous collection of tracks that most likely won´t make it to my DJ-sets, but I find it great anyways. Actually I miss this approach in Boys Noizes latest album – it would have been a nice addition to include some tracks like that.

Every now and then there is a track that every DJ can agree on. Right now this seems to be “Sonar” by Vakkuum, even though every DJ prefers another of the (excellent) remixes. I play both the original version and the NT89 remix.
And Henzel & Disco Nova surprised me a little with their new release on Bad Life. Rather deep and calm and not as straight forward as I would have expected from them. But it´s a great release, I am curious how their DJ-sets sound like at the moment.

Aka Tell´s Hangover Sessions is a monthly DJ-podcast. For one hour Aka spins the tracks that he loved most, that influenced him or about that he really had to say some words during the last few weeks. Every episode is accompanied by an article on discodemons.net in which he is disclosing thoughts, stories and anecdotes about that mix, the last month and DJing in general.
Aka Tell is a member of the electro house act A.G.Trio. Together with Andy Korg he heads the austrian electro house label Etage Noir Special. He has been active as a DJ for more than 10 years. Aka Tell lives in Vienna, Austria.
