When I read the interview with Jeff Mills in the book “From Skratch” by Ralf Niemczyk and Torsten Schmidt (Köln, 2000) it changed my view on international DJing forever. In this interview Jeff Mills tells how he has to wash his socks in the sink in his hotel room as he does not want to carry too much weight and he is not at one place long enough to give his clothes to the cleaning shop. This might only be a small anecdote, but it made me realise how non-glamorous DJ-life sometimes can be. Of course, it is great to play for an enthused crowd every night and see foreign places and stuff. But to do this job for a long time you really have to love music. Every young boy wants to be a DJ nowadays, but stories like this let me believe that “I want to be famous” is not reason enough to start this job.

This is the thirtiest episode of my podcast and I have to admit that I am a little bit proud about it. I am doing my monthly mixes for two and a half years now and I do not only love the fact that I get so much great feedback, I also like to listen to some older mixes sometimes and check out what has changed. My mix-library is somehow my own history and that´s pretty interesting.

About this months music: Mr. Oizo returns with an excellent EP (available on his homepage for free). Gesaffelstein now definitely will conquer the world with his new single and the video – and the upcoming album I guess. Truncate delivers more great music than I can even play. Maelstrom made an oldschool electro track for the upcoming Brodinski mixtape – which I now used before him. The new “50 weapons of choice” compilation (30-39) is awesome from the first to the last track. Marble records again does not disappoint with the release from Curses. And Modeselektor – together with the Sound Pellegrino Thermal Team – realeased a great dancefloor-track. I hope you enjoy number 30!

Aka Tell´s Hangover Sessions is a monthly DJ-podcast. For one hour Aka spins the tracks that he loved most, that influenced him or about that he really had to say some words during the last few weeks. Every episode is accompanied by an article on discodemons.net in which he is disclosing thoughts, stories and anecdotes about that mix, the last month and DJing in general.
Aka Tell is a member of the electro house act A.G.Trio. Together with Andy Korg he heads the austrian electro house label Etage Noir Special. He has been active as a DJ for more than 10 years. Aka Tell lives in Vienna, Austria.
