Nestled in the scenic mountains of Northern Italy, Fortezza is a small and peacefull village with 984 inhabitants, a church, a highway exit – and an impressive fortress dating back to the early 19th century and. Once a year though, Fortezza is more than that: each summer Love Electro! Festival opens its gates and not only brings new life to the abandoned fortress right next to the river but also attracts visitors from all over Europe.
This year’s edition has been headlined by international artists such as Crookers (that is, what’s left of them after their recent split), Felix Cartal and His Majesty Andre, with lots of local supporting artists to complement the big names. On a second stage, rock bands are performing in the evening to get people started into the night, while all around the audience beamers and spotlights are turned on to bath the exceptional location in colorful light and moving images – courtesy of the resident VJs Slutotronic and Orangutanklaus.
Apart from an incredible set by UK-based producer exceptionaire His Majesty Andre (in fact one of the best DJ sets I’ve seen in quite a while), one of the festival’s secret highlights were Erwin & Edwin – with all the successful releases and remixes they’ve released in the past few months they shouldn’t be strangers to you anymore. The four-piece band from Vienna, Austria not only managed to make the crowd go apeshit with their brass-fueled approach to electro from the first minute on but also masterfully handled an unexpected power blackout by spontaneously playing trumpet and drums soli until the power connection was restored. Keep an eye on these guys – preferably from a safe distance!
